The
East Texas Rural Electric Youth Seminar (ETREYS)
is designed to foster positive ideas and values among young people
and to enhance skills in leadership, problem-solving and interpersonal
relationships in a wholesome environment.
Participants
are selected on the basis of overall excellence with ALL EXPENSES
PAID by their sponsoring rural electric cooperative. The seminar
consists of workshops, presentations and peer group activities.
Several functions and free-time activities are also planned to develop
friendships and provide fun and relaxation.
Ths year's seminar will be held on the campus of Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas. Lon Morris College is the oldest two-year institution of higher learning in the State of Texas. The Department of Fine Arts has produced such graduates as Tommy Tune, Sandy Duncan, Neal McCoy and other notables in the entertainment industry. It has produced graduates who have been successful in all walks of life.
Speakers
include nationally-known personalities, college professors and community
leaders. The session topics range from leadership development to
pure entertainment.
ETREYS
offers students a chance to develop their interpersonal skills while
competing with each other for one of eleven scholarships. Everyone
that attends the seminar has the opportunity to leave better equipped
to take leadership roles in their schools and community.
ETREYS
was established in 1988 by the Group One Electric Cooperatives in
East Texas. Through the years ETREYS
has continually grown in popularity and is considered one of the
top seminars to attend among high school students.
